Friedrich Wilhelm Marpurg

Marpurg, Friedrich Wilhelm (1718-1795). German writer on music and amateur composer. Although at various times a secretary and a civil servant, Marpurg wrote a number of important theoretical works about music ranging from texts about music history to music techniques such as thorough-bass and counterpoint. His compositions mainly comprised keyboard works and songs and choruses.
