Commentary:

The ‘Z Prahy [From Prague]’ section of Lumír 5/6/1851 reported that fund raising activities in aid of a fund for the foundation of a national theatre in Prague were takin place in all parts of the country. In Prague these were said to include ‘theatre performances, academies, besedy, music, dance and song. ... On Sunday 1st June in the Apollo Hall was given a for this cause a beseda, which was very plentifully attended. The hall was magnificently decorated and the entertainment was very heartfelt; that it was not lacking in song is self explanatory. Budeč teaching candidates entetained the society with successful choruses.’ The text then proceeded to describe a further benefit event for the same cause that had taken place the previous day.
